and so that you may tell  your son and grandson  how severely I dealt with the Egyptians and performed miraculous signs among them, and you will know that I am the Lord.’


When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, you are to observe this ceremony.


The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night never left its place in front of the people.


The living, only the living can thank you, as I do today; a father will make your faithfulness known to children.


Fathers, don’t stir up anger  in your children, but bring them up in the training  and instruction of the Lord.


Teach them to your children,  talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.


Remember the days of old; consider the years of past generations. Ask your father, and he will tell you, your elders, and they will teach you.


‘When your son asks you in the future, “What is the meaning  of the decrees, statutes, and ordinances that the Lord our God has commanded you? ”


Repeat them to your children.  Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
