Years later,  after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people  and observed their forced labour.  He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his people.


Then the Lord said, ‘I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out  because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,


So the overseers and foremen of the people went out and said to them, ‘This is what Pharaoh says:  “I am not giving you straw.


So the Israelite foremen went in and cried for help to Pharaoh: ‘Why are you treating your servants this way?


But require the same quota of bricks from them as they were making before; do not reduce it. For they are lazy #– #that is why they are crying out,  “Let us go and sacrifice to our God.”


Fury is cruel, and anger a flood, but who can withstand jealousy?


Our ancestors went down to Egypt, and we lived in Egypt many years, but the Egyptians treated us and our ancestors badly.


But the Egyptians mistreated and oppressed us, and forced us to do hard labour.
