3 Mordecai the Jew was second only to King Ahasuerus.  He was famous among the Jews and highly esteemed by many of his relatives.  He continued to pursue prosperity for his people and to speak for the well-being of all his descendants.

When Sanballat the Horonite  and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard that someone had come to pursue the prosperity of the Israelites, they were greatly displeased.


In the fortress of Susa, there was a Jewish man named Mordecai  son of Jair, son of Shimei,  son of Kish,  a Benjaminite.


The entire royal staff at the King’s Gate  bowed down and paid homage to Haman, because the king had commanded this to be done for him. But Mordecai would not bow down or pay homage.


However, I have heard about you that you can give interpretations and solve problems. Therefore, if you can read this inscription and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple, have a gold chain round your neck, and have the third highest position in the kingdom.’


Then Belshazzar gave an order, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a gold chain round his neck,  and issued a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.


Daniel  distinguished himself above the administrators and satraps because he had an extraordinary spirit,  so the king planned to set him over the whole realm.


Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God concerning them  is for their salvation.


Whoever serves Christ  in this way is acceptable to God and receives human approval.


But all Israel and Judah loved David  because he was leading their troops.


saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, for my father Saul will never lay a hand on you. You yourself will be king over Israel,  and I’ll be your second-in-command. Even my father Saul knows it is true.’
