16 For  I am commanding you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live  and multiply, and the Lord your God may bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

Solomon loved the Lord   by walking in the statutes of his father David,  but he also sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.


My son, don’t forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands;


If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.


The one who has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.   And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father.   I also will love him and will reveal myself to him.’


Circumcision does not matter and uncircumcision does not matter. Keeping God’s commands is what matters.


But if your heart turns away and you do not listen and you are led astray to bow in worship to other gods and serve them,


I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life  so that you and your descendants may live,


The Lord your God will circumcise your heart  and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love him with all your heart and all your soul so that you will live.


For they are not meaningless words to you but they are your life,  and by them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.’


‘Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and ordinances  I am teaching you to follow, so that you may live,  enter, and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors,  is giving you.


Follow the whole instruction the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live, prosper, and have a long life in the land you will possess.


Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.


So diligently watch yourselves! Love the Lord your God!
