Deuteronomy 25:5 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

5 ‘When brothers live on the same property  and one of them dies without a son, the wife of the dead man may not marry a stranger outside the family. Her brother-in-law is to take her as his wife, have sexual relations with her, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law for her.

Then the firstborn said to the younger, ‘Our father is old, and there is no man in the land to sleep with us as is the custom of all the land.


‘Teacher, Moses said, if a man dies, having no children, his brother is to marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.   ,


‘Teacher,  Moses  wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaving a wife behind but no child,   that man should take the wife   and raise up offspring for his brother.   ,


‘Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother has a wife, and dies childless, his brother should take the wife and produce offspring for his brother.   ,


But Naomi replied, ‘Return home, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Am I able to have any more sons who could become your husbands?


Stay here tonight, and in the morning, if he wants to redeem you, that’s good.  Let him redeem you. But if he doesn’t want to redeem you, as the Lord lives,  I will. Now lie down until morning.’

Then Boaz said, ‘On the day you buy the field from Naomi, you will acquire  Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the deceased man, to perpetuate the man’s name on his property.’  ,
