because during those days the Jews gained relief from  their enemies. That was the month when their sorrow was turned into rejoicing and their mourning into a holiday.  They were to be days of feasting,  rejoicing, and of sending gifts to one another and to the poor.


Go, eat your bread with pleasure, and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for God has already accepted your works.


Your singing will be like that on the night of a holy festival, and your heart will rejoice like one who walks to the music of a flute, going up to the mountain of the  Lord, to the Rock of Israel.


and the ransomed of the  Lord will return and come to Zion with singing, crowned with unending joy. Joy and gladness will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee.


Hasn’t the food been cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?


You will rejoice  before the Lord your God #– #you, your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves, and the Levite who is within your city gates, since he has no portion or inheritance among you.


Then the Levite, who has no portion or inheritance among you, the resident foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow within your city gates may come, eat, and be satisfied.  And the Lord your God will bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.


Rejoice  before the Lord your God in the place where he chooses to have his name dwell #– #you, your son and daughter, your male and female slave, the Levite within your city gates, as well as the resident foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow among you.


You are to hold a seven-day festival for the Lord your God in the place he chooses, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hands,  and you will have abundant joy.


You, the Levites, and the resident foreigners among you will rejoice  in all the good things the Lord your God has given you and your household.
