7 All the administrators of the kingdom   #– #the prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors #– #have agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an edict that, for thirty days, anyone who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions’ den.

The Chaldeans spoke to the king (Aramaic  , begins here): ‘May the king live for ever.  Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation.’


Whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire.


King Nebuchadnezzar sent word to assemble the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the rulers  of the provinces to attend the dedication of the statue King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.


When the satraps, prefects, governors, and the king’s advisers gathered around, they saw that the fire had no effect  on  the bodies of these men: not a hair of their heads was singed, their robes were unaffected, and there was no smell of fire on them.


But whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire.’


So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den.  The king said to Daniel, ‘May your God, whom you continually serve,  rescue you! ’


My God sent his angel  and shut the lions’ mouths; and they haven’t harmed me, for I was found innocent before him. And also before you, Your Majesty, I have not done harm.’


My people, remember what King Balak of Moab   proposed, what Balaam son of Beor answered him, and what happened from the Acacia Grove  , to Gilgal, so that you may acknowledge the Lord’s righteous acts.


The lion mauled whatever its cubs needed and strangled prey for its lionesses. It filled up its dens with the kill, and its lairs with mauled prey.


But the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, how they might kill him.


and they conspired to arrest Jesus in a treacherous way and kill him.


As  soon as it was morning, having held a meeting with the elders,  scribes,  and the whole Sanhedrin, the chief priests  tied Jesus up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.


But the chief priests had decided to kill Lazarus also,
