When morning came, he was troubled,  so he summoned all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men.  Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him.


After all this took place, King Ahasuerus honoured Haman, son of Hammedatha the Agagite.  He promoted him in rank and gave him a higher position than all the other officials.


But then Pharaoh called the wise men and sorcerers #– #the magicians  of Egypt, and they also did the same thing by their occult practices.


for they will be a garland  of favour on your head and pendants  round your neck.


Your cheeks are beautiful with jewellery, your neck with its necklace.


You are worn out with your many consultations. So let the astrologers stand and save you – those who observe the stars, those who predict monthly what will happen to you.


A sword is over the Chaldeans – this is the  Lord’s declaration – against those who live in Babylon, against her officials, and against her wise men.


I adorned you with jewellery, putting bracelets on your wrists and a necklace round your neck.


In every matter of wisdom and understanding that the king consulted them about, he found them ten times  , better than all the magicians and mediums  in his entire kingdom.


young men without any physical defect, good-looking, suitable for instruction in all wisdom,  knowledgeable, perceptive, and capable of serving in the king’s palace.  He was to teach them the Chaldean language  and literature.


So the king gave orders to summon the magicians, mediums, sorcerers, and Chaldeans  , to tell the king his dreams. When they came and stood before the king,


Daniel answered the king, ‘No wise man, medium, magician, or diviner  is able to make known to the king the mystery he asked about.


Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many generous gifts. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.


But if you make the dream and its interpretation known to me, you’ll receive gifts, a reward, and great honour from me.  So make the dream and its interpretation known to me.’


He called out loudly: Cut down the tree and chop off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it, and the birds from its branches.


There is a man in your kingdom who has a spirit of the holy gods in him.  In the days of your predecessor he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods. Your predecessor, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, mediums, Chaldeans, and diviners. Your own predecessor, the king,


Now the wise men and mediums were brought before me to read this inscription and make its interpretation known to me, but they could not give its interpretation.


However, I have heard about you that you can give interpretations and solve problems. Therefore, if you can read this inscription and give me its interpretation, you will be clothed in purple, have a gold chain round your neck, and have the third highest position in the kingdom.’


Then Belshazzar gave an order, and they clothed Daniel in purple, placed a gold chain round his neck,  and issued a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.


for I will greatly honour you and do whatever you ask me. So please come and put a curse on these people for me! ” ’


The elders of Moab and Midian departed with fees for divination  in hand.  They came to Balaam and reported Balak’s words to him.


Now go to your home! I said I would reward you richly,  but look, the Lord has denied you a reward.’


Previously, an Israelite man had declared, ‘Do you see this man who keeps coming out? He comes to defy Israel. The king will make the man who kills him very rich and will give him his daughter.  The king will also make the family of that man’s father exempt from paying taxes in Israel.’
