He set up one in Bethel,  and put the other in Dan.


Jeroboam made a festival in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the festival in Judah.  He offered sacrifices on the altar; he made this offering in Bethel to sacrifice to the calves he had made. He also stationed the priests in Bethel for the high places he had made.


A man of God  came, however, from Judah to Bethel by the word of the Lord while Jeroboam was standing beside the altar to burn incense.


He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight. He did not turn away from all the sins Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.


They say to the seers, ‘Do not see,’ and to the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy the truth to us. Tell us flattering things. Prophesy illusions.


How dare you prophesy in the name of the Lord, “This temple will become like Shiloh and this city will become an uninhabited ruin”! ’ Then all the people crowded around Jeremiah at the Lord’s temple.


But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy.’


I will punish the altars of Bethel on the day I punish Israel for its crimes; the horns of the altar  will be cut off and fall to the ground.


Do not seek Bethel or go to Gilgal or journey to Beer-sheba, for Gilgal will certainly go into exile, and Bethel will come to nothing.


Now hear the word of the Lord. You say: Do not prophesy  against Israel; do not preach  against the house of Isaac.


Isaac’s high places  will be deserted, and Israel’s sanctuaries will be in ruins; I will rise up against the house of Jeroboam with a sword.’


‘Didn’t we strictly order you not to teach in this name?  Look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man’s blood.’


After they called in the apostles and had them flogged, they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.
