5 I will break down the gates  , of Damascus. I will cut off the ruler from the Valley of Aven, and the one who wields the sceptre from Beth-eden. The people of Aram will be exiled to Kir. The Lord has spoken.

The rest of the events of Jeroboam’s reign #– #along with all his accomplishments, the power he had to wage war, and how he recovered for Israel Damascus  and Hamath,  which had belonged to Judah  – are written in the Historical Record of Israel’s Kings.


So the king of Assyria listened to him  and marched up to Damascus and captured it.  He deported its people to Kir  but put Rezin to death.


Elam took up a quiver with chariots and horsemen, and Kir  uncovered the shield.


This is what the Lord, your Redeemer,  the Holy One of Israel  says: Because of you, I will send an army  to Babylon and bring all of them as fugitives, even the Chaldeans  in the ships in which they rejoice.


for before the boy knows how to call “Father”, or “Mother”,  the wealth of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria will be carried off to the king of Assyria.’


A sword is against the diviners, and they will act foolishly. A sword is against her heroic warriors, and they will be terrified.


Babylon’s warriors have stopped fighting; they sit in their strongholds. Their might is exhausted; they have become like women. Babylon’s homes have been set ablaze, her gate bars are shattered.


Zion’s gates have fallen to the ground; he has destroyed and shattered the bars on her gates. Her king and her leaders live among the nations, instruction  is no more, and even her prophets receive no vision from the  Lord.


Haran, Canneh, Eden,  the merchants of Sheba, Asshur,  and Chilmad traded with you.


The young men of On  and Pi-beseth will fall by the sword, and those cities  will go into captivity.


The high places  of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed; thorns and thistles will grow over their altars. They will say to the mountains,  ‘Cover us! ’ and to the hills, ‘Fall on us! ’


Do not seek Bethel or go to Gilgal or journey to Beer-sheba, for Gilgal will certainly go into exile, and Bethel will come to nothing.


Israelites, are you not like the Cushites to me? This is the  Lord’s declaration. Didn’t I bring Israel from the land of Egypt, the Philistines from Caphtor,  , and the Arameans from Kir?


Look, your troops are like women among you; your land’s city gates are wide open to your enemies. Fire will devour the bars of your gates.
