But you should select from all the people able men, God-fearing, trustworthy, and hating dishonest profit.  Place them over the people as commanders of thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.


His God teaches him order; he instructs him.


a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgement, and strength to those who repel attacks at the city gate.


‘But you are not to be called “Rabbi,” because you have one Teacher,   and you are all brothers and sisters.


So this rumour  spread to the brothers and sisters  that this disciple would not die.  Yet Jesus did not tell him that he would not die, but, ‘If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? ’


In those days Peter stood up among the brothers and sisters   #– #the number of people who were together was about a hundred twenty #– #and said,


‘Therefore, from among the men who have accompanied us during the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us #– #


They said, ‘Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who has a good reputation with the whole Jewish nation, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to call you to his house and to hear a message from you.’


They wrote: ‘From the apostles and the elders, your brothers, To the brothers and sisters among the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings.


The brothers and sisters at Lystra and Iconium spoke highly of him.


Then they were all filled  with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues,  as the Spirit enabled them.


Someone named Ananias, a devout man according to the law, who had a good reputation with all the Jews living there,


There we found brothers and sisters  and were invited to stay a week with them. And so we came to Rome.


The Twelve summoned the whole company of the disciples and said, ‘It would not be right for us to give up preaching the word of God to wait on tables.


This proposal pleased the whole company. So they chose Stephen,  a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a convert from Antioch.


They had them stand before the apostles, who prayed  and laid their hands on  them.


When the brothers found out, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.


to one  is given a message of wisdom  through the Spirit; to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit;


When I arrive, I will send with letters  those you recommend to carry your gift to Jerusalem.


And don’t get drunk  with wine,  which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit:


Appoint for yourselves wise, understanding, and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will make them your leaders.


and is well known for good works   #– #that is, if she has brought up children, shown hospitality,  washed the saints’ feet,  helped the afflicted,  and devoted herself to every good work.


Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.


Everyone speaks well of Demetrius #– #even the truth itself. And we also speak well of him, and you know  that our testimony is true.
