Early in the morning Abraham got up, took bread and a waterskin, put them on Hagar’s shoulders, and sent her and the boy away. She left and wandered in the Wilderness of Beer-sheba.


Instead, I advise that all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba #– #as numerous as the sand by the sea   #– #be gathered to you and that you personally go into battle.


So Joab son of Zeruiah and David’s soldiers marched out and met them by the pool of Gibeon.  The two groups took up positions on opposite sides of the pool.


Joab commanded the whole army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and Pelethites;


Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, the armour-bearer for Joab son of Zeruiah,


So the Lord sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and from Dan to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men died.


to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and establish the throne of David over Israel and Judah  from Dan to Beer-sheba.’


Joab son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was court historian;


So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops, ‘Go and count Israel from Beer-sheba to Dan and bring a report to me so I can know their number.’


When the ambassadors of Babylon’s rulers  were sent  to him to enquire about the miraculous sign  that happened in the land, God left him to test him and discover what was in his heart.


A person’s pride will humble him, but a humble spirit will gain honour.


This is what the Lord says: Cursed is the person who trusts in mankind. He makes human flesh his strength, and his heart turns from the  Lord.


especially because of the extraordinary revelations. Therefore, so that I would not exalt myself, a thorn in the flesh  was given to me, a messenger of Satan  to torment me so that I would not exalt myself.


All the Israelites from Dan to Beer-sheba  and from the land of Gilead came out, and the community assembled as one body before the Lord at Mizpah.
