11 But Jehoshaphat said, ‘Isn’t there a prophet of the Lord here? Let’s enquire of the Lord through him.’ One of the servants of the king of Israel answered, ‘Elisha son of Shaphat,  who used to pour water on Elijah’s hands, is here.’

Let a little water be brought, that you may wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree.


So he turned back from following him, took the team of oxen, and slaughtered  them. With the oxen’s wooden yoke and plough,  he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he left, followed Elijah, and served him.


But Jehoshaphat asked, ‘Isn’t there a prophet of the Lord here any more?  Let’s ask him.’


From there Elisha went to Mount Carmel,  and then he returned to Samaria.


Then the king of Israel said, ‘Oh no, the Lord has summoned these three kings, only to hand them over to Moab.’


Jehoshaphat affirmed, ‘The word of the Lord is with him.’ So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went to him.


Nevertheless, Joram clung to the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit.  He did not turn away from them.


Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the Lord because he did not keep the Lord’s word.  He even consulted a medium for guidance,


so David enquired of God, ‘Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me? ’ The Lord replied, ‘Attack, and I will hand them over to you.’


So David again enquired of God, and God answered him, ‘Do not pursue them directly. Circle around them and attack them opposite the balsam trees.


For the Lord our God burst out in anger against us because you Levites were not with us the first time, for we didn’t enquire of him about the proper procedures.’


But Jehoshaphat asked, ‘Isn’t there a prophet of the Lord here any more? Let’s ask him.’


King Zedekiah later sent for him and received him, and in his house privately asked him, ‘Is there a word from the Lord? ’ ‘There is,’ Jeremiah responded. He continued, ‘You will be handed over to the king of Babylon.’


Indeed, the Lord God does nothing without revealing his counsel to his servants the prophets.


But you know his proven character, because he has served with me in the gospel ministry like a son with a father.


and is well known for good works   #– #that is, if she has brought up children, shown hospitality,  washed the saints’ feet,  helped the afflicted,  and devoted herself to every good work.


After the death of Moses  the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun,  Moses’s assistant:


Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions, but did not seek the Lord’s decision.


They set out, went to Bethel, and enquired of God.  The Israelites asked, ‘Who is to go first to fight for us against the Benjaminites? ’ And the Lord answered, ‘Judah will be first.’


They went up, wept  before the Lord until evening,  and enquired of him, ‘Should we again attack our brothers the Benjaminites? ’ And the Lord answered, ‘Fight against them.’
