24 In addition, Josiah eradicated the mediums, the spiritists,  household idols,  images, and all the abhorrent things  that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem. He did this in order to carry out the words of the law that were written in the book that the priest Hilkiah found in the Lord’s temple.

When Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father’s household idols.


‘Since King Manasseh of Judah has committed all these detestable acts   #– #worse evil than the Amorites  who preceded him had done #– #and by means of his idols has also caused Judah to sin,


He walked in all the ways his father had walked; he served the idols his father had served, and he bowed in worship to them.


He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed  and re-established the altars for Baal. He made an Asherah,  as King Ahab of Israel had done;  he also bowed in worship to all the stars in the sky  and served them.


He sacrificed his son in the fire,  , practised witchcraft and divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists.  He did a huge amount of evil in the Lord’s sight, angering him.


But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the Lord’s Passover was observed in Jerusalem.


Egypt’s spirit will be disturbed within it, and I will frustrate its plans. Then they will enquire of worthless idols, ghosts, mediums, and spiritists.


For the Israelites must live many days without king or prince,  without sacrifice  or sacred pillar,  and without ephod  or household idols.


‘Do not turn to mediums  , or consult spiritists,  , or you will be defiled by them; I am the Lord your God.


‘A man or a woman who is  a medium or a spiritist must be put to death. They are to be stoned; their death is their own fault.’


For no one will be justified  in his sight by the works of the law,  because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.


But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works #– #this person will be blessed in what he does.


Outside are the dogs,   the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practises falsehood.


This man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and household idols,  and installed one of his sons to be his priest.
