he said: Canaan is cursed. He will be the lowest of slaves to his brothers.


Hushai continued, ‘You know your father and his men. They are warriors and are desperate like a wild bear robbed of her cubs.  Your father is an experienced soldier who won’t spend the night with the people.


When he left,  a lion attacked  him along the way and killed him.  His corpse was thrown on the road, and the donkey was standing beside it; the lion was standing beside the corpse too.


Then Jehu will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Hazael,  and Elisha will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Jehu.


He told him, ‘Because you did not listen to the Lord, mark my words: When you leave me, a lion will kill you.’  When he left him, a lion attacked and killed him.


From there Elisha went to Mount Carmel,  and then he returned to Samaria.


Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,  bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations  of those who hate me,


Better for a person to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool in his foolishness.


Judgements are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the backs of fools.


A wicked ruler over a helpless people is like a roaring lion or a charging bear.


Therefore, this is what the Lord says: “I am about to send you off the face of the earth. You will die this year because you have preached rebellion against the Lord.” ’


You will give them a heart filled with anguish.  , May your curse be on them!


I will attack them like a bear robbed of her cubs and tear open the rib cage over their hearts. I will devour them there like a lioness, like a wild beast that would rip them open.


I will send wild animals against you that will deprive you of your children, ravage your livestock, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted.


Therefore, this is what the Lord says: Your wife will be a prostitute in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided up with a measuring line. You yourself will die on pagan   soil, and Israel will certainly go into exile from its homeland.


He said to it, ‘May no one ever eat fruit   from you again! ’   And his disciples  heard it.


Then Peter  remembered and said to him, ‘Rabbi,  look! The fig tree that you cursed  has withered.’


When he heard these words, Ananias dropped dead, and a great fear came on all who heard.


Then Peter said to her, ‘Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.’


But Peter told him, ‘May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!


And we are ready to punish any disobedience, once your obedience is complete.


But if not, may fire come from Abimelech and consume the citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo, and may fire come from the citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo and consume Abimelech.’


God also brought back to the men of Shechem all their evil.  So the curse of Jotham son of Jerubbaal came upon them.
