picked up the mantle  that had fallen off Elijah, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.


So Elisha said to Gehazi, ‘Tuck your mantle  under your belt, take my staff with you, and go. If you meet anyone, don’t stop to greet him, and if a man greets you, don’t answer him.  Then place my staff on the boy’s face.’


and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and their left.


They stopped asking, ‘Where is the  Lord who brought us from the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and ravines, through a land of drought and darkness, a land no one travelled through and where no one lived? ’


Let the priests,  the  Lord’s ministers, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say, ‘Have pity on your people,  Lord, and do not make your inheritance a disgrace, an object of scorn among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, “Where is their God? ” ’


And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the accompanying signs.]


‘Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me   will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these,   because I am going to the Father.


Therefore, since he has been exalted to the right hand of God  and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit,  he has poured out  what you both see and hear.


Gideon said to him, ‘Please, my lord, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened? And where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about? They said, “Hasn’t the Lord brought us out of Egypt? ” But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian.’
