One day, while he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech  and Sharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped to the land of Ararat.  Then his son Esar-haddon  became king in his place.


Perhaps the Lord your God  will hear  all the words of the royal spokesman, whom his master the king of Assyria sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke  him for the words that the Lord your God has heard. Therefore, offer a prayer for the surviving remnant.” ’


But when the Lord finishes all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, ‘I  will punish the king of Assyria for his arrogant acts and the proud look in his eyes.’


On that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no longer depend on the one who struck them, but they will faithfully depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.


Israel, even if your people were as numerous as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction has been decreed; justice overflows.


For a remnant  will go out from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.”


He put on righteousness as body armour, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and he wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.


Look down from heaven and see from your lofty home #– #holy and beautiful. Where is your zeal and your might? Your yearning  and your compassion are withheld from me.


The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and for ever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.


Then the remnant of Judah #– #those going to live for a while there in the land of Egypt #– #will have no fugitive or survivor to return to the land of Judah where they are longing  to return to stay,  for they will not return except for a few fugitives.’


But I acted for the sake of my name,  so that it would not be profaned in the eyes of the nations they were living among, in whose sight I had made myself known to Israel by bringing them out of Egypt.


When my anger is spent and I have vented my wrath on them, I will be appeased.  Then after I have spent my wrath on them, they will know that I, the Lord, have spoken in my jealousy.


Then the Lord became jealous for his land  and spared his people.


So the angel who was speaking with me said, ‘Proclaim: The Lord of Armies says: I am extremely jealous  for Jerusalem and Zion.


And his disciples remembered that it is written: Zeal   for your house will consume   me.   ,


In the same way, then, there is also at the present time a remnant chosen by grace.


But Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, Though the number of Israelites is like the sand of the sea, only the remnant will be saved;
