Now summon all Israel to meet me at Mount Carmel,  along with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah  who eat at Jezebel’s table.’


So the king of Israel gathered the prophets, about four hundred men,  and asked them, ‘Should I go against Ramoth-gilead for war or should I refrain? ’ They replied, ‘March up, and the Lord will hand it over to the king.’


Then Jehu brought all the people together and said to them, ‘Ahab served Baal  a little, but Jehu will serve him a lot.


However, Elisha said to King Joram of Israel, ‘What do we have in common? Go to the prophets of your father and your mother! ’ But the king of Israel replied, ‘No, because it is the Lord who has summoned these three kings to hand them over to Moab.’


Would you testify unjustly on God’s behalf or speak deceitfully for him?


A person who flatters his neighbour spreads a net for his feet.


But I fear that, as the serpent  deceived  Eve  by his cunning, your minds may be seduced from a sincere and pure  devotion to Christ.


Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting  deceitfully or distorting the word of God,  but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.


For our exhortation didn’t come from error or impurity  or an intent to deceive.
