‘No! You will certainly not die,’ the serpent said to the woman.


‘As for you, get up and go to your house. When your feet enter the city, the boy will die.


So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab. The famine was severe in Samaria.


Then Elijah said to King Ahaziah, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Because you have sent messengers to enquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron #– #is it because there is no God in Israel for you to enquire of his will? #– #you will not get up from your sick-bed; you will certainly die.” ’


The messengers returned to the king, who asked them, ‘Why have you come back? ’


They replied, ‘A man came to meet us and said, “Go back to the king who sent you and declare to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you’re sending these men to enquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore, you will not get up from your sick-bed; you will certainly die.’ ” ’


In those days  Hezekiah became terminally ill.  The prophet Isaiah  son of Amoz came and said to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Set your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.” ’


Elisha told him, ‘Go and say to him, “You are sure to  recover.” But the Lord has shown me that he is sure to die.’


Genuine righteousness leads to life, but pursuing evil leads to death.


The wicked one is thrown down by his own sin, but the righteous one has a refuge in his death.


Look, every life belongs to me.  The life of the father is like the life of the son #– #both belong to me. The person who sins is the one who will die.


For the Lord had said to them that they would all die in the wilderness. None of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.


The Lord will also hand Israel over to the Philistines along with you. Tomorrow you and your sons will be with me,  , and the Lord will hand Israel’s army over to the Philistines.’
