But Solomon did not consign the Israelites to be slaves for his work; they were soldiers, commanders of his captains, and commanders of his chariots and his cavalry.


However, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer.  So the Canaanites still live in Ephraim today,  but they are forced labourers.


However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they imposed forced labour on the Canaanites but did not drive them out completely.
