‘Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city to build a temple in among any of the tribes of Israel, so that my name  would be there. But I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.’


When the skies are shut and there is no rain, because they have sinned against you, and they pray towards this place and praise your name, and they turn from their sins because you are afflicting them,


When your people go out to fight against their enemies, wherever you send them, and they pray to the Lord in the direction of the city which you have chosen and the temple I have built for your name,


and when they return to you with all their heart and all their soul in the land of their enemies who took them captive, and when they pray to you in the direction of their land that you gave their ancestors, the city which you have chosen, and the temple I have built for your name,


The Lord said to him: I have heard your prayer and petition you have made before me. I have consecrated this temple you have built, to put  my name there for ever;  my eyes and my heart will be there at all times.


He built altars in the Lord’s temple,  where the Lord had said, ‘Jerusalem is where I will put my name.’


Don’t become obstinate  , now as your ancestors did. Give your allegiance  to the Lord, and come to his sanctuary that he has consecrated for ever. Serve the Lord your God so that he may turn his burning anger away from you,


so that your eyes watch over this temple day and night, towards the place where you said you would put your name; and so that you may hear the prayer your servant prays towards this place.


Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him: I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple of sacrifice.


My eyes will now be open and my ears attentive to prayer from this place.


As for you, if you walk before me as your father David walked, doing everything I have commanded you, and if you keep my statutes and ordinances,


The Lord   said to Satan, ‘The Lord rebuke you, Satan! May the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Isn’t this man a burning stick snatched from the fire? ’


And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.’


If the place where the Lord your God chooses to put his name is too far from you, you may slaughter any of your herd or flock he has given you, as I have commanded you, and you may eat it within your city gates whenever you want.


Rejoice  before the Lord your God in the place where he chooses to have his name dwell #– #you, your son and daughter, your male and female slave, the Levite within your city gates, as well as the resident foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow among you.


For the entire fullness  of God’s nature dwells bodily  in Christ,
