Jehoshaphat was afraid, and he resolved  to seek the Lord. Then he proclaimed a fast  for all Judah,


who gathered to seek the Lord. They even came from all the cities of Judah to seek him.


may you hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants and your people Israel, so that you may teach them the good way they should walk in. May you send rain on your land that you gave your people for an inheritance.


may you hear in heaven, your dwelling place, and may you forgive and give to everyone according to all their ways, since you know each heart, for you alone know the human heart,


may you hear in heaven in your dwelling place, and do all the foreigner asks you. Then all the peoples of the earth will know your name, to fear you as your people Israel do and know that this temple I have built bears your name.


The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.


I have not spoken in secret, somewhere in a land of darkness. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob: Seek me in a wasteland. I am the Lord, who speaks righteously, who declares what is right.


‘The Redeemer  will come to Zion, and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression.’ This is the  Lord’s declaration.


We have become like those you never ruled, like those who did not bear your name.


Why are you like a helpless man, like a warrior unable to save? Yet you are among us, Lord, and we bear your name. Don’t leave us!


Yet I will certainly bring health  and healing to it and will indeed heal them. I will let them experience the abundance  of true peace.


In those days and at that time – this is the  Lord’s declaration – the Israelites and Judeans will come together, weeping as they come, and will seek the  Lord their God.


We tried to heal Babylon, but she could not be healed. Abandon her! Let each of us go to his own land, for her judgement extends to the sky and reaches as far as the clouds.


Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? So why has the healing of my dear people not come about?


Tell them, “As I live #– #this is the declaration of the Lord God  #– #I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked person should turn from his way and live.  Repent, repent of your evil ways! Why will you die, house of Israel? ”


‘Now, son of man, say to your people, “The righteousness of the righteous person will not save him on the day of his transgression; neither will the wickedness of the wicked person cause him to stumble on the day he turns from his wickedness. The righteous person won’t be able to survive by his righteousness on the day he sins.


In this way they will pronounce my name over  the Israelites, and I will bless them.’


‘Get up and go to the street called Straight,’ the Lord said to him, ‘to the house of Judas, and ask for a man from Tarsus   named Saul, since he is praying there.


Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you bear the Lord’s name,  and they will stand in awe of you.
