I have put the ark there, where the Lord’s covenant is that he made with the Israelites.


Now if you will carefully listen to me and keep my covenant,  you will be my own possession  out of all the peoples, although the whole earth is mine,


When he finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the testimony, stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God.


As he approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses became enraged and threw the tablets out of his hands, smashing them at the base of the mountain.


The Lord said to Moses, ‘Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.


Moses took the testimony  and placed it in the ark, and attached the poles to the ark. He set the mercy seat on top of the ark.


These are the words of the covenant  that the Lord commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Horeb.


It had the gold altar of incense and the ark of the covenant, covered with gold on all sides, in which was a gold jar containing the manna, Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant.
