1 Then Hezekiah sent word throughout all Israel and Judah, and he also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh to come to the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem to observe the Passover of the Lord, the God of Israel.

No such Passover had ever been observed from the time of the judges who judged Israel through the entire time of the kings of Israel and Judah.


The priests and Levites from all their regions throughout Israel took their stand with Rehoboam,


Those from every tribe of Israel who had determined in their hearts to seek the Lord their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the Lord, the God of their ancestors.


However, a man of God  came to him and said, ‘King, do not let Israel’s army go with you, for the Lord is not with Israel #– #all the Ephraimites.


The priests slaughtered the goats and put their blood on the altar for a sin offering, to make atonement for all Israel,  for the king said that the burnt offering and sin offering were for all Israel.


Then Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced over how God had prepared the people, for it had come about suddenly.


For the king and his officials and the entire congregation in Jerusalem decided to observe the Passover of the Lord in the second month,


Slaughter the Passover lambs,  consecrate yourselves,  and make preparations for your brothers to carry out the word of the Lord through Moses.’


This is the text of the letter  that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remaining exiled elders, the priests, the prophets, and all the people Nebuchadnezzar  had deported from Jerusalem to Babylon.


How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I surrender you, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? I have had a change of heart; my compassion is stirred!


Their actions do not allow them to return to their God, for a spirit of promiscuity is among them, and they do not know the  Lord.


The descendants of Joseph became two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. No portion of the land was given to the Levites except cities to live in, along with pasturelands for their cattle and livestock.
