King Jehoash of Israel captured Judah’s King Amaziah son of Joash,  son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh. Then Jehoash went to Jerusalem and broke down 180 metres  of Jerusalem’s wall from the Ephraim Gate  to the Corner Gate.

I went out at night through the Valley Gate towards the Serpent’s  Well and the Dung Gate,  and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem that had been broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire.


So I went up at night by way of the valley and inspected the wall. Then heading back, I entered through the Valley Gate  and returned.


Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired the Valley Gate. They rebuilt it and installed its doors, bolts, and bars, and repaired half a kilometre  of the wall to the Dung Gate.


After him Binnui  son of Henadad made repairs to another section, from the house of Azariah to the Angle and the corner.


The goldsmiths  and merchants made repairs between the upstairs room on the corner and the Sheep Gate.


‘Look, the days are coming’ #– #the Lord’s declaration #– #‘when the city  from the Tower of Hananel  to the Corner Gate  will be rebuilt for the Lord.


All the land from Geba  to Rimmon  south of Jerusalem will be changed into a plain. But Jerusalem will be raised up and will remain  on its site from the Benjamin Gate  to the place of the First Gate,  to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses.
