So David gave orders to gather the resident foreigners that were in the land of Israel,  and he appointed stonecutters to cut finished stones for building God’s house.


Then the whole assembly of Judah with the priests and Levites, the whole assembly that came from Israel, the resident foreigners who came from the land of Israel, and those who were living in Judah, rejoiced.


As for all the peoples who remained of the Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not from Israel   #– #


their descendants who remained in the land after them, those the Israelites had not completely destroyed #– #Solomon imposed forced labour on them; it is this way today.


They gave money to the stonecutters and craftsmen, and gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so they would bring cedar wood from Lebanon to Joppa by sea,  according to the authorisation given them by King Cyrus of Persia.


Jonah got up to flee to Tarshish  from the Lord’s presence.  He went down  to Joppa  and found a ship going to Tarshish. He paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the Lord’s presence.


All things were created  through him,  and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.


Therefore send someone to Joppa and invite Simon here, who is also named Peter. He is lodging in Simon the tanner’s house by the sea.”


In Joppa  there was a disciple named Tabitha (which is translated Dorcas). She was always doing good works  and acts of charity.


Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent two men to him who urged him, ‘Don’t delay in coming with us.’


This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.


Peter stayed for some time in Joppa with Simon,  a leather tanner.
