The length of Jeroboam’s reign was twenty-two years. He rested with his ancestors, and his son Nadab became king in his place.


In the twentieth year of Israel’s King Jeroboam,  Asa became king of Judah,


Abijah pursued Jeroboam and captured some cities from him: Bethel, Jeshanah, and Ephron,  along with their surrounding villages.


However, Abijah grew strong, acquired fourteen wives, and fathered twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.


‘Son of man, I am about to take the delight of your eyes  away from you with a fatal blow. But you must not lament or weep or let your tears flow.


At once an angel of the Lord  struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.


About ten days later, the Lord struck Nabal dead.


David added, ‘As the Lord lives, the Lord will certainly strike him down:  either his day will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.
