‘Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite,’ he replied. ‘I told him, “Give me your vineyard for silver, or if you wish, I will give you a vineyard in its place.” But he said, “I won’t give you my vineyard! ” ’


The one who profits dishonestly  troubles his household, but the one who hates bribes will live.


An inheritance gained prematurely will not be blessed ultimately.


Making a fortune through a lying tongue is a vanishing mist,  a pursuit of death.  ,,


Oppressing the poor to enrich oneself, and giving to the rich #– #both lead only to poverty.


Don’t wear yourself out to get rich; because you know better, stop!


Woe to those who add house to house and join field to field until there is no more room and you alone are left in the land.


Those who buy them slaughter them but are not punished.  Those who sell them say, “Blessed be the Lord because I have become rich!” Even their own shepherds have no compassion for them.


Along with the others slain by them, they killed the Midianite kings #– #Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian.  They also killed Balaam son of Beor  with the sword.


Now the one sown among the thorns #– #this is one who hears the word, but the worries of this age   and the deceitfulness   of wealth   choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.


When the young man heard that, he went away grieving, because he had many possessions.


and said, ‘What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you? ’ So they weighed out thirty pieces of silver for him.


‘Don’t store up for yourselves treasures   on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.


but the worries   of this age,   the deceitfulness   , of wealth,   and the desires   for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.


‘That’s how it is with the one who stores up treasure   for himself and is not rich towards God.’


like a trap. For it will come on all who live on the face of the whole earth.


But Peter told him, ‘May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!


to take off  , your former way of life,  the old self  that is corrupted by deceitful desires,


Burn the carved images of their gods. Don’t covet the silver and gold on the images and take it for yourself, or else you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the Lord your God.


We know that the law is not meant for a righteous person, but for the lawless and rebellious,  for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and irreverent, for those who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers,


Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the devil’s  trap.


For the love of money is a root  of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith  and pierced themselves with many griefs.


Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant  or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God,  who richly provides us with all things  to enjoy.


Then they may come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil,  who has taken them captive to do his will.


instructing us to deny godlessness  and worldly lusts  and to live in a sensible, righteous,  and godly  way in the present age,


Israel has sinned. They have violated my covenant that I appointed for them. They have taken some of what was set apart. They have stolen, deceived, and put those things with their own belongings.


They will exploit  you in their greed  with made-up stories. Their condemnation,  pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.


Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain,  have plunged into Balaam’s error  for profit, and have perished in Korah’s rebellion.
