My son, don’t forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commands;


Hold on to instruction; don’t let go. Guard it, for it is your life.


I had just passed them when I found the one I love. I held on to him and would not let him go until I brought him to my mother’s house   – to the chamber of the one who conceived me.


Go to God’s instruction and testimony!  If they do not speak according to this word, there will be no dawn for them.


‘Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?


Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me.

When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged all of them to remain true to the Lord with devoted hearts,


strengthening the  disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith  and by telling them, ‘It is necessary to go through many hardships  to enter the kingdom of God.’


The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined  the Scriptures  daily to see if these things were so.


Do not be conformed  to this age,  but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,  so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will  of God.


Let love be without hypocrisy.  Detest evil;  cling to what is good.


Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work,  because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.


For who knows a person’s thoughts  except his spirit  within him? In the same way, no one knows  the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.


Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work  for the good  of all, especially for those who belong to the household  of faith.


testing  what is pleasing  to the Lord.


so that you may approve the things that are superior  and may be pure  and blameless  in the day of Christ,


In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained.


Finally  brothers and sisters, whatever is true,  whatever is honourable,  whatever is just,  whatever is pure,  whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable #– #if there is any moral excellence  and if there is anything praiseworthy #– #dwell on these things.


See to it that no one repays evil for evil  to anyone,  but always pursue what is good for one another and for all.


Stay away  from every kind of evil.


So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm  and hold to the traditions you were taught,  whether by what we said or what we wrote.


You know that all those in the province of Asia  have deserted me,  including Phygelus and Hermogenes.


For among them are those who worm their way into households and deceive gullible women overwhelmed by sins and led astray by a variety of passions,


Alexander  the coppersmith did great harm to me. The Lord will repay him according to his works.


Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful.


Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits  to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.


I know your works, your labour, and your endurance,   and that you cannot tolerate evil people. You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not,   and you have found them to be liars.


Only hold on to what you have until I come.


I am coming soon.   Hold on to what you have,   so that no one takes your crown.


Remember, then, what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. If you are not alert, I will come   like a thief, and you have no idea at what hour I will come upon you.
