12 Afterwards, Samuel took a stone and set it upright  between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer,  explaining, ‘The Lord has helped us to this point.’

And Abraham named that place The Lord Will Provide,  so today it is said, ‘It will be provided  on the Lord’s mountain.’


Jacob set up a marker at the place where he had spoken to him #– #a stone marker. He poured a drink offering on it and poured oil on it.


And Moses built an altar  and named it, ‘The Lord Is My Banner.’


On that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the centre of the land of Egypt and a pillar to the Lord near her border.


To this very day, I have had help from God, and I stand and testify to both small and great, saying nothing other than what the prophets and Moses said would take place   #– #


He has delivered  us from such a terrible death,  and he will deliver us. We have put our hope in him that he will deliver us again,


Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle  of the Jordan where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant were standing. The stones are still there today.


Then Saul built an altar to the Lord; it was the first time he had built an altar to the Lord.


And Samuel’s words came to all Israel. Israel went out to meet the Philistines in battle and  camped at Ebenezer  while the Philistines camped at Aphek.


After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer  to Ashdod,


Then the men of Israel charged out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines striking them down all the way to a place below Beth-car.
