He blessed him and said: Abram is blessed by God Most High, Creator  of heaven and earth,


The man replied,  ‘The woman you gave to be with me #– #she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate.’


David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead and said to them, ‘The Lord bless you because you have shown this kindness to Saul your lord when you buried him.


Let another praise you, and not your own mouth – a stranger, and not your own lips.


The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.


There is a generation #– #how haughty its eyes and pretentious its looks.


Give her the reward of her labour, and let her works praise her at the city gates.


In the same way, when you have done all that you were commanded, you should say, “We are unworthy   servants; we’ve only done our duty.” ’


The Pharisee was standing   and praying like this about himself:   “God, I thank you that I’m not like other people #– #greedy,   unrighteous,   adulterers,   or even like this tax collector.


He said to his mother, ‘The 1,100 pieces of silver taken from you, and that I heard you place a curse on #– #here’s the silver. I took it.’ Then his mother said, ‘My son, may you be blessed by the Lord! ’


Then he said, ‘May the Lord bless you,  my daughter. You have shown more kindness now than before,  because you have not pursued younger men, whether rich or poor.


Just as he finished offering the burnt offering, Samuel arrived. So Saul went out to greet him,


‘I regret that I made Saul king,  for he has turned away from following me and has not carried out my instructions.’  So Samuel became angry and cried out to the Lord all night.


‘But I did obey the Lord! ’ Saul answered.  ‘I went on the mission the Lord gave me: I brought back King Agag of Amalek, and I completely destroyed the Amalekites.


Saul and the troops spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, goats, cattle, and choice animals,  as well as the young rams and the best of everything else. They were not willing to destroy them, but they did destroy all the worthless and unwanted things.


‘May you be blessed by the Lord,’ replied Saul, ‘for you have shown concern for me.


One of Nabal’s young men informed Abigail, Nabal’s wife, ‘Look, David sent messengers from the wilderness to greet our master,  but he screamed at them.
