How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I surrender you, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? I have had a change of heart; my compassion is stirred!


The Lord threw them into confusion  before Israel. He defeated them in a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them along the ascent of Beth-horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.


As they fled before Israel, the Lord threw large hailstones on them  from the sky along the descent of Beth-horon all the way to Azekah, and they died. More of them died from the hail than the Israelites killed with the sword.


It then descended westwards to the border of the Japhletites as far as the border of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer,  and ended at the Mediterranean Sea.


This was the territory of the descendants of Ephraim by their clans: The border of their inheritance went from Ataroth-addar  on the east to Upper Beth-horon.


Terror spread through the Philistine camp and the open fields to all the troops. Even the garrison and the raiding parties  were terrified. The earth shook,  and terror spread from God.  ,
