Some time passed after these events. Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard; it was in Jezreel  next to the palace of King Ahab of Samaria.


When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, ‘Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite who refused to give it to you for silver,  since Naboth isn’t alive, but dead.’


Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite:


When Gehazi came to the hill,  , he took the gifts from them and deposited them in the house. Then he dismissed the men, and they left.


‘Get the chariot ready! ’ Joram shouted, and they got it ready. Then King Joram of Israel and King Ahaziah of Judah set out, each in his own chariot, and met Jehu at the plot of land of Naboth the Jezreelite.


The one who lives righteously and speaks rightly, who refuses profit from extortion, whose hand never takes a bribe, who stops his ears from listening to murderous plots and shuts his eyes against evil schemes   –


Although they know God’s just sentence #– #that those who practise such things deserve to die  ,  #– #they not only do them, but even applaud  , others who practise them.


They have gone astray by abandoning the straight path  and have followed the path of Balaam,  the son of Bosor,  who loved the wages of wickedness
