1 Kings 2:26 - Christian Standard Bible Anglicised

26 The king said to the priest Abiathar,  ‘Go to your fields in Anathoth.  Even though you deserve to die, I will not put you to death today, since you carried the ark of the Lord God in the presence of my father David  and you suffered through all that my father suffered.’

David was infuriated with the man and said to Nathan, ‘As the Lord lives, the man who did this deserves to die!


For today he went down and lavishly sacrificed oxen, fattened cattle, and sheep. He invited all the sons of the king, the commanders of the army, and the priest Abiathar. And look! They’re eating and drinking in his presence, and they’re saying, “Long live King Adonijah! ”


He conspired  with Joab son of Zeruiah  and with the priest Abiathar.  They supported  Adonijah,


Then the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada in Joab’s place over the army,  and he appointed the priest Zadok in Abiathar’s place.


Cry aloud, daughter of Gallim! Listen, Laishah! Anathoth is miserable.


The words of Jeremiah,  the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living in Anathoth  in the territory of Benjamin.


And whoever gives   even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple,   , truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.’
