This happened because of all the sins of Baasha and those of his son Elah, which they committed and caused Israel to commit, angering the Lord God of Israel  with their worthless idols.


because of the sin he committed by doing what was evil in the Lord’s sight and by walking in the ways of Jeroboam and the sin he caused Israel to commit.


‘Because I raised you up from the dust  and made you ruler over my people Israel,  but you have walked in the ways of Jeroboam and have caused my people Israel to sin,  angering me with their sins,


The rest of the events of Omri’s reign, along with his accomplishments and the might he exercised, are written in the Historical Record of Israel’s Kings.


But through the prophet Jehu  son of Hanani the word of the Lord also had come against Baasha and against his house because of all the evil he had done in the Lord’s sight. His actions angered the Lord, and Baasha’s house became like the house of Jeroboam, because he had struck it down.


for the customs of the peoples are worthless. Someone cuts down a tree from the forest; it is worked by the hands of a craftsman with a chisel.


They are both stupid and foolish, instructed by worthless idols made of wood!


Can any of the worthless idols of the nations  bring rain? Or can the skies alone give showers? Are you not the  Lord our God? We therefore put our hope in you, for you have done all these things.


Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in a time of distress, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and they will say, ‘Our ancestors inherited only lies, worthless idols  of no benefit at all.’


Yet my people have forgotten me. They burn incense to worthless idols that make them stumble in their ways on the ancient roads, and make them walk on new paths, not the raised road.


Listen #– #the cry of my dear people from a faraway land, ‘Is the Lord no longer in Zion, her King not within her? ’ Why have they angered me with their carved images, with their worthless foreign idols?


The statutes of Omri and all the practices of Ahab’s house have been observed; you have followed their policies. Therefore, I will make you a desolate place and the city’s  residents an object of contempt;  , you will bear the scorn of my people.’  ,


‘People! Why are you doing these things? We are people also, just like you, and we are proclaiming good news to you, that you turn from these worthless things  to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.  ,


They have provoked my jealousy with what is not a god; they have enraged me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with what is not a people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation.
