He will give up Israel because of Jeroboam’s sins that he committed and caused Israel to commit.’


There was war between Asa and King Baasha of Israel throughout their reigns.


This was because Jeroboam had angered  the Lord God of Israel by the sins he had committed and had caused Israel to commit.


He walked in all the ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat in every respect and continued in his sins that he caused Israel to commit, angering the Lord God of Israel with their worthless idols.


They rejected his statutes and his covenant he had made with their ancestors  and the warnings he had given them. They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves,  following the surrounding nations the Lord had commanded them not to imitate.


Look, all of them are a delusion; their works are non-existent; their images are wind and emptiness.


They are worthless, a work to be mocked. At the time of their punishment they will be destroyed.


They are both stupid and foolish, instructed by worthless idols made of wood!


Those who cherish worthless idols abandon their faithful love,


About eating food sacrificed to idols, then, we know that ‘an idol is nothing in the world’,  and that ‘there is no God but one’.


They have provoked my jealousy with what is not a god; they have enraged me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with what is not a people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation.


Don’t turn away to follow worthless  things that can’t profit or rescue you; they are worthless.
