Then an informer came to David and reported, ‘The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.’


Then David said to Abishai and all his servants, ‘Look, my own son, my own flesh and blood,  intends to take my life   #– #how much more now this Benjaminite! Leave him alone and let him curse me; the Lord has told him to.


Now a wicked man, a Benjaminite named Sheba son of Bichri, happened to be there. He blew the ram’s horn and shouted: We have no portion in David, no inheritance in Jesse’s son. Each man to his tent,  Israel!


Then the Lord said to Solomon, ‘Since you have done this  and did not keep my covenant and my statutes, which I commanded you, I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.


Yet I will not tear the entire kingdom away from him. I will give one tribe to your son  for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem that I chose.’


‘ “However, I will not take the whole kingdom from him but will let him be ruler all the days of his life for the sake of my servant David, whom I chose and who kept my commands and my statutes.


I will take ten tribes of the kingdom from his son and give them to you.


I will give one tribe  to his son,  so that my servant David will always have a lamp  before me  in Jerusalem, the city I chose for myself to put my name there.


I will humble David’s descendants, because of their unfaithfulness, but not for ever.” ’  ,


So Micaiah said: I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘They have no master; let everyone return home in peace.’


Then the cry rang out in the army as the sun set, declaring: Each man to his own city, and each man to his own land!


When  all Israel saw  , that the king had not listened to them, the people answered the king: What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. Israel, each to your tent; David, look after your own house now! So all Israel went to their tents.


A gentle answer turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath.


The Lord will bring on you, your people, and your father’s house such a time as has never been since Ephraim separated from Judah:  He will bring the king of Assyria.’


When it became known to the house of David  that Aram had occupied Ephraim,  the heart of Ahaz  and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.


then also my covenant with my servant David  may be broken. If that could happen, then he would not have a son reigning on his throne and the Levitical priests would not be my ministers.


‘Son of man, take a single stick and write on it:  Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him. Then take another stick and write on it: Belonging to Joseph #– #the stick of Ephraim #– #and all the house of Israel associated with him.


If a kingdom   is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.


‘But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, “We don’t want this man to rule over us.”


But bring here these enemies of mine,   who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter   them in my presence.” ’


‘You will never wash my feet,’ Peter said. Jesus replied, ‘If I don’t wash you, you have no part with me.’


They did not show kindness  to the house of Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) for all the good he had done for Israel.


Gaal son of Ebed said, ‘Who is Abimelech and who is Shechem that we should serve him? Isn’t he the son of Jerubbaal, and isn’t Zebul his officer? You are to serve the men of Hamor, the father of Shechem.  Why should we serve Abimelech?
