The young men who had grown up with him told him, ‘This is what you should say to this people who said to you, “Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us! ” This is what you should tell them: “My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!


So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had ordered: ‘Return to me on the third day.’


and spoke to them according to the young men’s advice: ‘My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with barbed whips.’


Asa was enraged with the seer and put him in prison  because of his anger over this. And Asa mistreated some of the people at that time.


Now get to work. No straw will be given to you, but you must produce the same quantity of bricks.’

‘But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them and do not be afraid of their words,  even though briars and thorns are beside you and you live among scorpions.  Don’t be afraid of their words or discouraged by the look on their faces, for they are a rebellious house.


When that day comes, you will cry out because of the king you’ve chosen for yourselves,  but the Lord won’t answer you on that day.’
