Joab gave the king the total of the registration of the troops. There were eight hundred thousand valiant armed men  from Israel and five hundred thousand men from Judah.


Yet the king’s order prevailed over Joab. So Joab left and travelled throughout Israel and then returned to Jerusalem.


David didn’t count the men aged twenty or under, for the Lord had said he would make Israel as numerous as the stars of the sky.


Joab son of Zeruiah began to count them, but he didn’t complete it. There was wrath against Israel because of this census,  and the number was not entered in the Historical Record  of King David.
