11 When your time comes to be with your ancestors, I will raise up after you your descendant, who is one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.

But you will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age.


Otherwise, when my lord the king rests with his ancestors,  I and my son Solomon will be regarded as criminals.’


Then David rested with his ancestors  and was buried in the city of David.


Yet you are not the one to build it; instead, your son, your own offspring, will build it for my name.’


The Lord has fulfilled what he promised. I have taken the place of my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the  Lord  promised. I have built the temple for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.


ever since the day I ordered judges to be over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. ‘ “Furthermore, I declare to you that the Lord himself will build a house for you.


He is the one who will build a house for me,  and I will establish his throne for ever.


And out of all my sons   #– #for the Lord has given me many sons #– #he has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord’s kingdom over Israel.


For we are foreigners and temporary residents in your presence as were all our ancestors.  Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.


He died at a good old age,  full of days,  riches, and honour, and his son Solomon became king in his place.


Yet, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own offspring, will build the temple for my name.’


‘For this is what the Lord says: David will never fail to have a man sitting on the throne of the house of Israel.


For David, after serving God’s purpose in his own generation, fell asleep,  was buried with his fathers, and decayed,


‘Brothers and sisters, I can confidently speak to you about the patriarch David: He is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.


The Lord said to Moses, ‘You are about to rest with your ancestors,  and these people will soon prostitute themselves with the foreign gods  of the land they are entering. They will abandon me  and break the covenant  I have made with them.
