who, calling out to their companions, say: 'We played music for you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not mourn.'


And in that place, there were many women, at a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him.


Now there were also women watching from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome,


But Jesus, turning to them, said: "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me. Instead, weep over yourselves and over your children.


Now the women who had come with him from Galilee, by following, saw the tomb and the manner in which his body was placed.


along with certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, who is called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had departed,


Now all were weeping and mourning for her. But he said: "Do not weep. The girl is not dead, but only sleeping."


Amen, amen, I say to you, that you shall mourn and weep, but the world will rejoice. And you shall be greatly saddened, yet your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
