But Gehazi had gone before them, and he had placed the staff upon the face of the boy. And there was no voice, nor any response. And so he returned to meet him. And he reported to him, saying, "The boy did not rise up."


Did not you, our God, put to death all the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel? And you gave it to the offspring of your friend Abraham, for all time.


But the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, just as a man is used to speaking to his friend. And when he returned to the camp, his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not withdraw from the Tabernacle.


But you, O Israel, are my servant, O Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of my friend Abraham.


And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awaken: some to everlasting life, and others to a reproach that they will always see.


And the tombs were opened. And many bodies of the saints, which had been sleeping, arose.


he said, "Depart. For the girl is not dead, but asleep." And they derided him.


And entering, he said to them: "Why are you disturbed and weeping? The girl is not dead, but is asleep."


But if he walks in the nighttime, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."


And so his disciples said, "Lord, if he is sleeping, he shall be healthy."


But Jesus had spoken about his death. Yet they thought that he spoke about the repose of sleep.


Therefore, his sisters sent to him, saying: "Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick."


He who holds the bride is the groom. But the friend of the groom, who stands and listens to Him, rejoices joyfully at the voice of the groom. And so, this, my joy, has been fulfilled.


Then, too, those who have fallen asleep in Christ would have perished.


Be vigilant, you just ones, and do not be willing to sin. For certain persons have an ignorance of God. I say this to you with respect.


Behold, I tell you a mystery. Certainly, we shall all rise again, but we shall not all be transformed:


Because of this, it is said: "You who are sleeping: awaken, and rise up from the dead, and so shall the Christ enlighten you."


And the Lord said to Moses: "Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers, and this people will rise up and will fornicate after foreign gods, in the land which they will enter so that they may live in it. In that place, they will forsake me, and they will make void the covenant that I have formed with them.


who died for us, so that, whether we watch, or whether we sleep, we may live in union with him.


And so the Scripture was fulfilled which says: "Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice." And so he was called the friend of God.
