But a famine occurred in the land. And Abram descended to Egypt, to sojourn there. For famine prevailed over the land.


Then the Lord said to Abraham: "Why did Sarah laugh, saying: 'How can I, an old woman, actually give birth?'


Then, when a famine arose over the land, after that barrenness which had happened in the days of Abraham, Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Palestinians, in Gerar.


And they entered into the land of Egypt with the others who traveled to buy. For the famine was in the land of Canaan.


And having consumed the provisions that they had brought out of Egypt, Jacob said to his sons, "Return and buy us a little food."


We came to sojourn in your land, because there is no grass for the flocks of your servants, the famine being very grievous in the land of Canaan. And we petition you that you may order us, your servants, to be in the land of Goshen."


Our skin was burned, as if by an oven, before the face of the tempest of the famine.
