When the disciples heard this, they were utterly puzzled (astonished, bewildered), saying, Who then can be saved [from eternal death]?


So those who [now] are last will be first [then], and those who [now] are first will be last [then]. For many are called, but few chosen.


For many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen.


But the gate is narrow (contracted by pressure) and the way is straitened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it. [Deut. 30:19; Jer. 21:8.]


[Jesus] journeyed on through towns and villages, teaching, and making His way toward Jerusalem.


Strive to enter by the narrow door [force yourselves through it], for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.
