Wherefore Jehovah his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.


A fruitful land into a salt desert, For the wickedness of them that dwell therein.


Again, they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.


Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; And let strangers make spoil of his labor.


And the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.


For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen; because their tongue and their doings are against Jehovah, to provoke the eyes of his glory.


And the streams of Edom shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.


For, as for thy waste and thy desolate places, and thy land that hath been destroyed, surely now shalt thou be too strait for the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.


Then shall the lambs feed as in their pasture, and the waste places of the fat ones shall wanderers eat.


In mine ears saith Jehovah of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.


Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until cities be waste without inhabitant, and houses without man, and the land become utterly waste,

Thy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.


For wickedness burneth as the fire; it devoureth the briers and thorns; yea, it kindleth in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke.


For all the armor of the armed man in the tumult, and the garments rolled in blood, shall be for burning, for fuel of fire.


The young lions have roared upon him, and yelled; and they have made his land waste: his cities are burned up, without inhabitant.


A lion is gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations; he is on his way, he is gone forth from his place, to make thy land desolate, that thy cities be laid waste, without inhabitant.


Wherefore my wrath and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

And you will I scatter among the nations, and I will draw out the sword after you: and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste.


Then shall the land enjoy its sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye are in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy its sabbaths.


and I will cut off the cities of thy land, and will throw down all thy strongholds.


Therefore I also have smitten thee with a grievous wound; I have made thee desolate because of thy sins.


The fruit of thy ground, and all thy labors, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway;


The sojourner that is in the midst of thee shall mount up above thee higher and higher; and thou shalt come down lower and lower.


and that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
