While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

For YHWH had said of them, “They will die-die in the wilderness.” None of them was left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
Y’all are to take one leader of every tribe to divide the land for inheritance.
except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He will see it. I will give the land that he has walked on to him and to his children, because he has followed YHWH fully.”
He said this for Judah, “Hear, YHWH, the voice of Judah. Bring him in to his people. With his hands he contended for himself. Be a help against his adversaries.”
