Tell us then, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”


Y’all show me the coin used for the tax.” They brought him a denarius.


They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “So then y’all are to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”


But Jesus replied to him, “Permit it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John allowed him.


Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”


The men of Israel said, “Have y’all seen this man who keeps coming up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. The king will give great riches to the man who kills him, and will give him his daughter, and will make his father’s house tax-free in Israel.”
