I say, “Keep the king’s command!” because of the oath to God.


Everything is the same for everyone. There is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good, to the clean, to the unclean, to him who sacrifices, and to him who doesn’t sacrifice. As is the good, so is the sinner; he who takes an oath, as he who fears an oath.


and you will swear, ‘As YHWH lives,’ in truth, in justice, and in righteousness. The nations will bless themselves in him, and they will glory in him.”


The children of Israel didn’t strike them, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by YHWH, the God of Israel. All the congregation grumbled against the leaders.


This is what we will do this to them: we will let them live so that no wrath will be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them.”
