Now Ephron was sitting in the middle of the children of Heth. Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying,
“I am a stranger and a foreigner living with y’all. Give me a possession of a burial site among y’all so that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”
He talked with them, saying, “If y’all agree that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
the field which Abraham purchased from the children of Heth. Abraham was buried there with Sarah, his wife.
He instructed them, and said to them, “I am to be gathered to my people. Y’all must bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,
for his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field, as a possession for a burial site, from Ephron the Hittite, near Mamre.
Then David said to Ornan, “Sell me the place of this threshing floor, that I may build an altar to YHWH on it. You must sell it to me for the full price, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”
King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for YHWH, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
Y’all must never repay evil for evil; consider what is excellent before all humans.
Y’all must not owe anything to anyone, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
