Jesus therefore said to him, “Unless y’all see signs and wonders, y’all just won’t believe.”
Yet they weren’t able to stand up against the wisdom and the Spirit by whom he spoke.
All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
Therefore, siblings, select seven men from among y’all who have a reputation of being full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, and whom we may appoint to this duty.
This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a convert to Judaism from Antioch.
But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
When they heard and saw the signs he performed, the crowds paid close attention with one mind to what Philip said.
So Christ gave some to be apostles, some as prophets, some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers
For those who have served as deacons with excellence gain for themselves an excellent standing and great confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
